STUDIO ART

IB ART WORK | THEME: CENSORSHIP

Using different medium, canvas sizes, and a mixture between drawing techniques, photography and photoshop, I wanted to explore the idea of censorship with a focus on self-censorship. How I wanted to portray the way I felt censored in life, and the frustration and lies that are shown to either exaggerate or play-down the emotions. I was inspired by Pop Artists such as Any Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Jasper Johns, as well as photographer Barbara Kruger, who uses powerful images and text. The spelling mistakes in the artwork were done on purpose to match the idea being portrayed in that specific piece. Some pieces are meant to provoke people, some are meant to be confusing as people might not understand what they are looking at; and some seem to be one thing, but are the complete opposite. From tracing my own body, to using wall paint, to almost cutting my lips, there was a deep satisfaction in knowing that I am able to express my feelings, ideas and thoughts through art.
