Refugee camp
SOUTH OF LEBANON
As part of the International Biodiversity Day at AUB, our challenge was to design a type of garden that would suit a refugee camp along with the theme “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. Our team noticed that everyday hundreds of empty, half empty and sometimes even full plastic water bottles are thrown away around the campus. A better way to utilize is to turn them into a vertical garden for those who have no space for green in their life. The vertical garden is a solution to help provide them with space to plant anything they want while at the same time reducing the plastic pollution. The skeletal structure, composed of wood, metal bolts and nails, holds the bottles via string, which is wrapped around the bottle and connected to the wood. The plant choices are divided into 2 different categories: 1) Culinary/Medicinal 2) Ornamental. “Green Wall in a Box” concept; no matter where you are, unload the contents in the box to build a green wall.
